Back in 2008 I posted a blog about Globe Broadband blocking Port 25 and I suggested a workaround solution for the problem. This post will help you change your default Globe broadband smtp port on your MS Outlook email client and you may also use this on other broadband.
I am really surprised that my post received a lot of response. This post is about solution option no. 2 where in we have to use port 587 for our Globe Broadband SMTP Server. After over a year of using the alternate SMTP server it has never failed me and I am still using it for my other emails although I moved my main email to Google Apps for convenience and ease of syncing as I am always on the move and its hard for me to sync emails until I discovered Google Apps but that for different blog post.
How to Set-up SMTP Mail Server Port 587
- Open your MS Outlook (2003, 2007)
- On the Tools tab, click on Account Settings
- On the Account Setting window, choose the account name you want to change
- After choosing the account, click on change and you will see the “change e-mail account” window
- On the “change e-mail account” window, click on More Settings at the bottom right part of the window
- On the “Internet e-mail settings” window, click on the Advanced tab
- Leave the Incoming port and edit the Outgoing Server (SMTP) to 587
- Test you settings and you should be able to send e-mails now
This settings has worked for for my Globe Broadband SMTP mail server for over a year now and should also work on your email accounts. If you are you are hosting your website to a shared server kindly check with your hosting provider if they support port no. 587 as outgoing mail server.
I hope this how-to will help out a lot of you Globe Broadband users out there. Let me know and leave a comment if you are successful or not.
