Globe Broadband Blocked Port 25

Yep, you read it right. I just had a conversasion with the Tech Support of Globelines Broadband because of my intermittent broadband connection and also to inform Globelines that my phone went dead as in NO dial tone and I think its affecting my internet connection.

According to the first tech support lady I spoke with the Globelines issue the maximum repair visit would take 5 days. I can live with that if the NO dial tone telephone will not affect my connectivity but I think it really is affecting my internet.

Port 25 Blocking Issue

Port 25 is the port commonly used by web hosting providers and I also just learned that a lot of ISP’s are blocking the default SMTP port but they provide an alternate SMTP E.G. smtp.mysip.com but Globelines is not giving any alternate SMTP but rather they wanted me to the email address that they provided. I dont think that they get me. What if I’m the CEO of some company and needed to sed an email to my employees and I only know how to use MS outlook? what should I do?

I think stopping the source of SPAM is a great move for Globelines but they also need to do it the right way and not just some quick fixes.

The Options

The tech support agent at Globe Broadband gave me 3 options in order to send emails:

  1. Use the email address they provided
  2. Use PORT 587 (No gurantee that will work on my web hosting provider)
  3. Avail Static IP (PHP 770/month)

Option 1: is obviously not an option for me because I have a website and I use my own domain when sending and recieving emails. I also happen to have multiple email accounts and I’m sure you know how annoying it is to use webmail. It also looks very unprofessional if I use this email address.

Option 2: this looks promising, port 587 is an open port (I think) which gamil also happens to use when you want an email client configured. I’m using this port right now and so far so good.

Option 3: Clearly the reason why they are not providing alternate SMPT servers yet.

Globe needs to provide an alternate SMTP server such as allowing us subscribers to use smtp.globelines.com.ph or they also need to support other port numbers. But I think the best is that they allow us to use thier SMTP only and not the full Email account they are trying to provide us.

Yes I encountered the same problem with my SMTP outgoing email server. They also advised me to avail the static IP which will cost P700+. I complained and told them it’s not fair. I am now planning to cut my globe broadband and apply for PLDT again, I was a PLDT subscriber before, and unluckily I transferred to Globe broadband because I was convinced of their promo. If you encounter the same problem of your SMTP outgoing email server the ultimate solution is to transfer to PLDT dsl or dial-up internet will work. Globe Company doesn’t give a damn concern and solution of this problem because GLOBE doesn’t care of their subscribers. They prefer their subscribers to transfer to other DSL/Broadband provider. SHAME ON YOU!

  • http://aldo.splitsys.com/ Aldo

@ Anthony have you tried using Option 2: this looks pronmising, port 587 is an open port (I think) which gamil also happens to use when you wnat an email cleint configured. I’m this pport right now and so far so good. This solutions is still working as far as I am concerned.

let's all switch from globe broadband service to others. Before, i've been recommending globe but it seems they are now just interested in getting everyone have the additional 700 fee. When I first asked globe about this problem (early 2009), the CSR's were clueless about the problem. Now, all the CSR's ive talked to are recommending the 700 fee (evidence that Globe knows and is capitalizing on the problem they created)

I'm going to request for disconnection together with a request for waiver of premature termination fee due to their blocking of port 25. -__- Further, i'll be recommending everyone I know not to subscribe to globe for choosing to capitalize on the misfortunes of their subscribers rather than solve it.

You may want to check this site. Since I am sick and tired calling Globe call center regarding SMTP setting.

I made my own research why Globe SMTP is not working.

In this site just put your globe IP address and you will know complete details

why our Globe SMTP is not working.

its totally unfair, I paid for internet connection but they are giving the service that should be given to a customer. Where could you find a internet service provider that doesn't include smtp for wireless customer. ONLY in globe.

  • Euthor

SmartBro lets you use smtp and their port 25 open. It let me send emails, but they never reach their destination. I can't even log in on their mail website. I guess they don't work either.

  • stjohnmedrano

Yes not only globe broadband do this even smart block port 25.

For other smtp concern if your using gmail smtp port 587 and 465(ssl) both works.

If you are a website owner. You should check your hosting provider if they support any alternative smtp port.

Lastly if you are a website developer/designer you will surely regret using globe as your ISP.

    1. you will be behind their firewall. thus everything will be cache. if you edit something in your website layout(or css). surely it will be a nightmare. you will have to wait until the cache is clear in their firewall.

    2. voip issue. but except with the great skype, they always find a way to make their software work.

Simple solution, use smtp2go, send 10 emails per day no cost or under $25 for a year with limit set at 50 emails max per day. Works; no brainer.

I hope to GOD you can't. What you are requesting is called SPLIT TUNNELING. This is the worst nighmare of an IT department. If your computer was split tunneled to the corporate network it would create a HUGE security hole. There is NO WAY to get around this from the client side, i.e. your computer. (And thank god for that) You are one of the users that we fear the most (You know just enough to be dangerous :) :) :)

I would go with sabayon linux, I have tried just about all I can try. Mint, Red hat, Centos, Debian, Ubuntu and variant, Slackware, Mandriva etc etc.. They are all linux, but sabayon is just maintained with better quality, and they are not a fringe group. They use what works, and it is easier to use.
