Last September 21, 2008 for the first time in my life while sleeping, I had a seizure. Luckily I was at my parent’s house otherwise my Fiance wouldn’t know what to do and would’ve dominated by panic. I never had a seizure before so everybody was asking why the hell did it happen to me. Over the past weeks before the episode I unknowingly had the symptoms of a seizure attack which I mistakenly identified as migrane/ stress/ anxiety.
What is a Seizure?
A seizure is a sudden change in behavior characterized by changes in sensory perception (sense of feeling) or motor activity (movement) due to an abnormal firing of nerve cells in the brain.
What I had was a tonic-clonic seizures: This is the most common type among all age groups and is categorized into several phases beginning with vague symptoms hours or days before an attack. These seizures are sometimes called grand mal seizures.
Day 1: Hospital, Several Tests and CocoLife Health Card
I was rushed to the nearest hospital – Family Care Hospital in Pacita Complex and was given first aid to stabilize my condition. After waking up, I did not have any recollection of what has happened and everything was a blur to me. I was confused and disoriented. Being stabilized, I was transferred to Asian Hospital and Medical Center Alabang to get further emergency aid. I was admitted to a private room and was immediately scheduled for an MRI, EEG and X-Ray – to name a few tests that they ran. Luckily I had my Cocolife Health Insurance with me.
